    For myself I prefer texting, just to skip all the “extra” talking…unless they’re extra special
    …plus I don’t have Caller ID so I hate not knowing who’s calling

    In the vid you saw my ol’ skool BlackBerry too :P

    Wow very interesting video… I’m actually thinking about this lately.,.
    My family and some respected friends got mad for me always texting… It’s becoming a habit

    Arshad never picks up his phone.., so I waste time texting back and forth..
    You sometimes answer calls and always reply to texts and emails
    azzam always answers, leaves voicemails, replies to my voicemails and almost never texts… Truthfully it feels most personal with phone calls…
    So yeah please stay in touch..

    I’m trying to get the habit of not pulling out cellphone in classes in masjids or at eating tables with people… And especially not wen elders are talking

    My worst story is when Arshad texted me in class in a small class and the prof was looking at me… And it went loud … So he thought it was funny to send more texts… It’s evil I telling you..
    He’s evil too… He’s almost always texting and it feels inhuman (ESP when we do group projects)

  4. March 25th, 2010 at 12:49 | #4

    @Mohamed – hehe I understand why they’d get mad :P

    It’s good you know who does what, text or talk.

    I think that’s the bigger problem than just calling or sending texts, to pull out ur phone in around real people in front or at the wrong places…but it’s tempting aint it?

    lol @ Arshad – that’s why I always keep my phone on vibrate

    As Salaamu ‘Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu.

    Jazakallahu ‘Khayran for another beneficial video bro.

    Personally I’m more of a texter as its usually short & sweet and you roughly know how long it takes. But with phonecalls you never know how long they gonna take.

    But I guess one benefit of phone calls is that you say everything you have/need to say then & there and it’s over, instead of going back & forth with phone calls.

    Masha’Allah, I got it right! I liked the tip. I don’t have text messaging, my husband won’t let me get it. But I would love to have it for that reason. As a result, when I am busy I just don’t run to answer the phone and if someone really needs me they have to leave a message. Then I get back when I can. But sometimes if I am busy for a long time I don’t get back for awhile. In those cases it would be nice to send a quick text saying, hey I am doing something right now but I am still thinking about you and will get back when I get a chance. But Allah knows best, elHamdulillah.

  7. March 25th, 2010 at 13:40 | #7

    I’m pretty much half-half. I text if the message I need to get across is short (or I just don’t prefer to talk to that person) and call if it requires some conversation.

    Assalaam Alaikum,

    I have the habit of texting people when I’m bored. So then they text me (usually about something unimportant) and I’m usually busy studying at that time…so it disturbs me. But if I need to talk about something important I call. It also kind of depends who you’re calling…if they’re a close friend you can just cut to the chase because you see them all the time anyways. If you haven’t seen them in a while, the conversation can become drawn out.

    great video, masha’Allah. and this topic is very important to me. i chose to go from “pick up phone whenever it rings” to “i pick when it’s convenient for me”. i did that about 2-3 years ago and it works very well. also, just like i dont send useless text messages, ppl don’t send me useless messages as well. so it’s cool.

    i only use my phone for long talks with my close friends or quick urgent calls.

    hahaa your tooo funny man, but I agree 100%…and Nahyan, STOP stalking me…its too hard to tell you over the phone lol

  11. March 25th, 2010 at 17:54 | #11

    @Burhan Uddin wa alaikum assalaam warahmatullahi wabarakatuh. I like the short n sweet approach too.

    I guess phone calls work well when there’s an actual plan, something specific to talk about. It gets kinda hard to close off the conversation when the other person’s so “into” it n you’re like “I really don’t wanna talk to you now…”

    @Umm Amin ya it’s usually better to have that texting option, takes that “stress” off of being available for phone calls.

    …but of course it can get addictive like ma man Mohamed

    A cool thing my sister’s phone had was an auto text. It just tells them you’re busy, will call back later when you have time etc. a nice feature.

    Umm Amin :
    Masha’Allah, I got it right!

    and I’m so against data plans. it’s like you’re on call 24/7 [if you dont have control over yourself]..checking emails whenever they come, getting calls, txt msges, fb updates, etc. my husband’s on it and it’s annoying.

    just wanted to share :)

  16. March 26th, 2010 at 07:03 | #16

    I LOAATTHHHHE texting (strange thing for a 17 year old to say, I know) and I hate it when I see people texting 24/7… ahem, especially teenagers. I won’t text unless it’s absolutely necessary. You know, maybe things would be different if I had one of those qwerty phones :D . But still… we never had a cell phone.. EVER until I started college and needed it just to call my mom when class was over so she could pick me up… but that’s it. I guess I don’t have that “bad habit” of letting the cell run my life lol…

    Lol whose blog is this?

    Nahyan’s or Mohammad’s?

    lol

  18. March 26th, 2010 at 14:38 | #18

    @nobo I know eh? Data plans can get too “intrusive”

    @Kaisar Galib Hossain wa alaikum assalaam :)

    @re: tarded I’ll add 5 mins to ur pay-as-you-go :P

    re: tarded :
    @Nahyan
    it sux, it sux , everything sux

    lol thanks for tuning in

    @Zainab I hearr that, those kind of ppl can be very annoying.

    But a qwert phone does make it all the more tempting :) – i have no clue how people can get addicted to texting with a dinky little phone you gotta click 3 times for each letter…

    Zainab :
    I LOAATTHHHHE texting

    o no CAPS LOCK, she must be serious!

    @Machher Al-Kabeer hehe nice counter + dodged answering the real question :D

    I dont have caller Id aswell…… after a lecture, i take my phone out adn it says “4 missed calls. 4 Unknown” lol.. I would advice everyone, pay that extra five bucks and get a caller ID.

  20. March 27th, 2010 at 20:42 | #20

    @Abdul Malik Mohammad I hearr that.

    I’ve been “planning” to set up my called ID…probably after exams inshaAllah.

    I usually text the person If I just need to ask a question because a phone conversation may take more time, hey-howareyou..etc.
    But for some after asking a question they want to text back and forth for hours , so I just cut it short and say “thanks , I’ll let you get back to what you were doing :) ” acting like their the one who is busy.

  22. April 5th, 2010 at 05:48 | #22

    @Muslimah22 This is cool.

    Muslimah22 :

    …I just cut it short and say “thanks , I’ll let you get back to what you were doing :) ” acting like their the one who is busy.

    That’s always a good technique…except if they’re like “o no, no problem I like spending time with you…” :P

    Sometimes, the most basic thing works “Alright then, I’m gonna go now *smile and walk away*”

    i waste too much time texting ppl.

    We have these packages in Pakistan, like a 1000msgs for 14days and i have a huge problem, whn i come across some good quotes while reading, i have to have to text thm to ppl.

    man i wast so much time on that. first my biggest distraction was just fb, but lol subhanAllah, just today i deactivated my acc alhamdulilah, my heart is at peace-finally

    and now its my mobile. i guess i should switch it off when im home studying and thn switch it on at night inshaAllah.

    subhanAllah, mobiles ar cool decvices, my friends wake m up for fajr by calling me so theres a plus and minus to that. guess aftr fajr i have to say goodbye to my phone inshaAllah.

    jazakAllah. watchd this on on UTube too, i dunno whats wrong with the laptop?

  24. April 5th, 2010 at 18:03 | #24

    @Maryam wow that’s a pretty serious deal (1000 msg for 14days)

    FB de-activation – big step, good for you mashaAllah.

    I like the new plan for switching phone on and off when needed

    may we always put Allah(SWT) first in all we do and when we text may it be in sharing Islam……..and not any answering to shaitan’s whisper….for all we do , even so small as texting counts on the day of judgement…may we all gather enough good deeds to enter Jannah……and texting is not so open so do we ever think it is a hidden communication- only should we text of business or as husband and wife….keep it halal always.
