I stick my blackberry in a case and under my pillow or shelf, it’s also hard to click the snooze button inside the case
…or someone yells at me for not waking up
(deep sleepers know about that)
I use the flying alarm clock… it always scares me!
See:

@Sister – woo that’s crazy
I found these funny ones, I love the puzzle one and clocky
http://bit.ly/6dA8uB
nice video!
i use my cellphone but it doesnt wake me up cuz of 2 easy buttons… i usually depend on family members to wake me up…not very productive :s
Salaams. Yay Nahyan is still busy helping make lives better
um, this is funny but I wake up better when I promise to phone a friend for fajr, b/c it is a sign of da moonaficks that they break promises and I don’t want the naar..
Want me to Cellphone you for fajr… It’s not bida fid deen
I keep my cellphone FARR from the bed, the alarm goes on pretty loud, at one point, i’ll HAVE to get up and shut it off
Masha’Allah, very good video. I use alarm-clock and my cell phone. I put my alarm-clock in a position so that I have to get out of bed to turn it off.
@nobo i hear that, at least someone’s got your back
@Msheikh489er wa alaikum assalaam, good stuff. Let’s do that soon bro, it’s great accountability. I’m arite for now alhamdulillah.
@sadi Ma man! Good to hear from you bro. Yo it’s frustrating to know that it’s only gonna get worse, waking up angry at the phone
@Sarwar Ya the forceful getting up to turn it off works well. I tried that few times, but seems like everyone in the house hears it but me
I use a cell phone/cheap alarm clock (that has a difficult to find snooze button) combo.
I remember my dad used to say about his teacher that he’d have such a command over his body…he’d leave you and say “I’m taking a 15-minute nap” and precisely 900 seconds (15min) later, you’d see him up, well-rested. SubhanAllah, it’s so funny how Allah put this thing over us that we cannot survive without or even escape.
On a more practical note, I’d read on this blog: http://howtowakeupearly.com/ (I think it was there) that it’s always recommended that you put your alarm far away from your bed, like across the room. Therefore, the only way to get it off is to get up, and thereafter WAKE up.
Also, living in Makkah’s always good, you have a Mu’adhin brand Alarm.
A combination: my alarm clock right beside my bed, my iPod inside my nightstand, and my cell phone on the table, set a few minutes apart.
@A-Z – niice, a combo usually works better
@Jawaad Ahmad Khan – ya man, it’s crazy to experience the precise self-awakening too.
Dono if it happened to you before, for me I’m delighted to wake up at will…but sometimes it’s way off and you may end up sleeping 3 hours and missing a health studies exam…
I liked that site, lots of great tips.
A mu’adhin wake up alarm would be so awesome. I remember in Bangladesh last summer they had this alarm kinda thing from the masjid for suhoor wake up – not quite muadhin brand, but does the job
@Abû Mûsâ Al-Ḥabashî – daam homie, that’s almost impenetrable…wonder if you’ve slept through them all before?
I see you’re repping YorkU, it’s cool you got office hours for execs.. Good stuff mashaAllah.
(it’s all in love bro)
I’m on the other (better) side of universities, UTSC
@Nahyan
So says the MSA that took half a year to appoint it’s President.
@Abû Mûsâ Al-Ḥabashî – haha you know about that eh…
…reverse burn for me
Salams brother Nahyan,
First off i wanted to say great vid, i read all your posts. They’re really good masahallah and they help, especially since I am a really busy senior in highschool cuz i’m very involved alhamidllah (School Pres., Varsity b-ball team co-capt, Nhs, local youth group. ect.) So i have no choice but to manage my time well while doing all these activies and still having time for family and keeping up with grades and the burdens of senior year and some college classes. For me, the best and most productive way that i get through my day is for prepping the night before and having a good morning. I’ll simplfy it in 3 points.
1. I use a planner which is VERY important, to write down every thing i have 2 do for the next day and the rest of the week no matter how small. Sometimes i have to use additional sticky notes b/c i have no space. This helps in making sure i don’t forget anything. (You really can’t trust memory, its like a snake)
2. I have 2 wake up everyday @ 6:30 and the way i make sure i wake up is my having 2 alrams. My alarm system sychrnozied in way that it draws me out of my sleep by stages. The 1st alarm is my regular very annoying loud pitched alarm clock that’s close and it rings onlly 1 time once u press the snooze button but that one time is good enough 2 stir u awake. The other alarm is on the my desk faar out of reach and its my phone alarm. It rings in intervals, i do 5 mins each alarm for 3 alarms so that i can’t fully go back 2 sleep because i don’t get a chance 2 even snooze enough by the time the next alarm rings ( and each alarm has a different tune) Basically by the time the 4th alarm rings i am fully awake and up because there was no chance i could even catch sleep in the 3 alarms before since everytime i am jst about 2 fall back into deep sleep i am rudely awakend. This whole alarm system is set up 15 mins before my orginal intended wake up time of 6:30 so by the time my last alarm rings, i get up and its exactly 6:30.
3. When i wake up I fix the i’m not a morning person problem by making a good on the go breakfast that will give the boost i need and i drink tea rather coffee which wakes me up. I seriously take the time to make a good breakfast and the more u do it the faster you get at making quick breafasts. I personally believe if your morning is sluggish then so will the rest of your day. Breakfast is your headstart to get your morning going.
Those are just some tips i wanted to share, sorry for going off topic but i found them very usefull and thought i might as well share, they could be of some help to others.
Wasalam,
Amany K
@Amany
That’s a fantastic point, found the “memory like a snake” part amusing (and it is true)
AWESOME! Just earlier today myself and few guys were talking about having 1 pre-alarm alarm. I want to do that too. You’ve got the perfect system in place, mashaAllah.
Doesn’t get true-er than that. Ya, I don’t know what people think by starting their day with coffee.
For sure, myself included.
Jazakallahukhair for the very comprehensive response.
InshaAllah this is only the tip of the iceberg for you, being in high-school still it’s especially amazing you’ve got these systems/mindsets in place. MashaAllah.
salams,
May Allah reward every one for their beautiful tips
Alhamdulillah i have learnt so much from each.
As for me, I’m happy with my phone.
On my sony ericssion i can have atleast 5 alarms and i can name them aswell…. by the time i check which button to press the statement keeps flashing
like i have written for tahajjud-’ALLAH IS WAITING’
and fajr as i wrote ‘OPEN D KNOT’ coz when you sleep SHAITAN ties three knots to you!(Narrated Abu Huraira Allah’s Apostle said, “Satan puts three knots at the back of the head of any of you if he is asleep. On every knot he reads and exhales the following words, ‘The night is long, so stay asleep.’ When one wakes up and remembers Allah, one knot is undone; and when one performs ablution, the second knot is undone, and when one prays the third knot is undone and one gets up energetic with a good heart in the morning; otherwise one gets up lazy and with a mischievous heart.” )
so i try to actually imagine at every step when a knot is opened
I have also attached an alarm picture of the rising sun which would remind me that its soon going to go qaza, that means I need to hurry up.
and it helps Alhamdulillah!
w/salam
@ebi – wa alaikum assalaam warahmatullah,
Interesting strategy.
I like the message that comes along with the alarm, about why the alarm is so early.
ps. jazakallahukhair for sharing the hadith as a reminder for us.
Awesome Video!
I use my cellphone but have an islamic alarm tone. My Fajr alarm is the Fajr adah but only the portion “As-Salatu khairum minan-naum” that way fear sinks in the heart and you have to wake up.
Also, MORE!
@Abu Yusuf – very nice, that would definitely hit hard. Also, it’s gotta be hard to feel annoyed and shut off the adhan calling towards salaah and worshipping Allah
I gotta get me one of those.
Jazakallahukhair for mentioning that Abu Yusuf.
Its easy to do! All you gotta do is search for the specific ringtone for your specific phone. OR just download a Adhan audio and splice parts…
lol jokes man.. the way I wake up is I put the alarm kinda far away.. 680 news blasts through my room and i get annoyed lol… btw i kno those are ur toys man ur the youngest one in the family lol
@Sister
flying alarm clock lol..wat if that blinds you
@Abu Yusuf – oo “splice” – fancy word
Ya I would, my ol skool phone can’t handle the ringtone…
@Fares Elahi – 680 news is a good idea, any radio would be so annoying (i prefer CFRB 1010 in general
Toys – noo man you saw through my bluff…(actually the blue Batman was a favorite toy before, it came with a Batmobile and almost always beat the army guys in wrestling
)
When can we get a new video? Im growing impatient!
Great post and great blog masha Allah. It seems everyone is talking about time management these days. I am also writing about my experiences on my blog. Thanks again.
Alsalamu Alykom , how are you my brother , good site , I want to make contact with you for more developing sites which in benefit to Muslims .
I think the best method is sleeping early in a regular time and get you enough amount of sleeping , your biology clock system will used to wake up in an early regular time also ( tested with me and success ) .
@Abu Yusuf –
@muslimfitforlife – Jazakallahukhair akhi
@hello news – That’s so true, probably the simplest but most challenging (for me at least). Just takes a little while for body clock to adjust to a set time and then ur good to go…
I have an an alarm cat so my choice as one of the best alarms is a pet. Especially one that relys on you for breakfast every morning.
A dog is good if you want to combine getting up, getting dressed and taking Fido for the morning walk. A cat is good if you don’t mind an animal that can flying out of nowhere and screech in your face. My cat put her face up next to mine and lets out a scream that makes my hair hurt.
I love this one
I used to have a cat but she only woke my sister up…I’ll retry with my next cat
Until you value yourself, you won’t value your time. Until you value your time, you won’t do anything with it – (M. Scott Peck)
thought I’d share this interesting quote.
my friends ususally wake me up for fajr by giving me alot of calls until i wake up, but sometimes my ears are so immune to the alarm or the calls that i dont wake up…
my mum wakes me up then cause then everyone else wakes up besides me….(deep sleeper hehe)
p.s jazakAllah for the awesome tip brother Jawaad and Nahyan, next time ill keep my mobile anywhere but on the bed where i sleep… ill try this today inshaAllah.
